I have been employed at Corby Place Senior Living since 2017, working as a certified nurse assistant through Royal Comfort Service. I have a big heart for elderly people and find caring for others very rewarding. I love getting the opportunity to brighten someone’s day and strive to put a smile on someone’s face each and every day. At the age of 16, I began working in the medical field as a certified nursing assistant. My whole caregiving experience has been with geriatrics residents, in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, private homes, and in a hospital setting. I have found that caring for seniors is perhaps the greatest responsibility we have. It has the added benefit of working with people who have a lifetime of experiences and knowledge to share that can then broaden one’s perspective.
Senior care workers willing and able to provide supportive and compassionate care have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in someone’s life every day. Dealing with the changes that come with aging and adjusting to life in a senior community can be challenging for some older adults. Senior caregivers have a positive impact on the physical and emotional wellbeing of those they care for that eases the transition and makes a big difference in their quality of life. The impact of those relationships extends to the family and friends of those seniors who have the reassurance that their loved one is in good hands.
By working in a senior living community, I often feel that I get back as much or more than I give my residents. In return for providing compassionate care, I have had the opportunity to learn from the wisdom and knowledge that seniors offer. Through working at Corby Place Senior Living, I have formed countless lasting bonds with community residents and their families. I believe that I have been able to grow as a person by getting to know people who have diverse life experiences, approach life with innovation, intelligence, creativity and humor. I take pride in my work, knowing that I can make a difference every day. I truly enjoy listening to the life stories, experiences, and humor of the seniors I care for. I cannot emphasize the importance or how much of a difference it can make in one’s day, just by simply taking the time to sing, dance, or laugh with them.
